Web 2.0 Marketing - Lite!

By Clive | December 10, 2007

I’ve been somewhat slow getting back to you with this 7 day treatment as I changed horses mid stream! Yes that’s me folks - I got silly on my choice of KWP (Keyword Phrase) and by day 3/4 I realised I’d gotten above myself, was being too ambitious, and so I just stopped that campaign as I could see it wasn’t going well and wasn’t going to pay me much.

I may well post details as to where I went wrong at a later date. For the Webel Way to work, I reckon, you need a KWP that is up against, say, 250,000 results for the broad key phrase. That’s not hard. (I prefer a 3 word KWP to a 2 word one but that’s up to you).

As I think I’ve said before I’m WEAK! I try something, see that it works, and then ‘finesse’ it ’til it doesn’t work anymore!

But I’m learning! I’ve never pretended to be anything other than an explorer of Web 2.0 but as Howard Carter is alleged to have said when asked what he could see (he’d just chiseled a hole into what was soon to be known as ‘Tutankhamun’s Tomb‘):

” I see wondrous things.”

The Good News is that the new 7 day plan will be ‘done and dusted’ in the next couple of days and you’ll be able to see the complete results (other than my KWP and earnings, thank you very much!) before Christmas.

What I hope will excite you, dear reader, is that this time not only have I tracked rankings in Google/Yahoo and MSN but also I can, and will, tell you which Web2.0 site each ranking relates to!

If you’ve been a disciple of Bending The Web, Conversation Domination (or my humble blog) etc. I know that you’ll appreciate the value of that information. What works (fast) and what doesn’t.

As a ‘teaser’ here’s a quick summary on my Day #5 Google check for a KWP getting 270 searches per day ( and little competition for a product paying out over $150 per sale):

Page #1 - #7,#8,#9,#10

Page #2 - #12,#14,#15,#16,#17,#18,#19,#20 (People, I OWN this page!)

If I didn’t have your attention already I’m sure I have it now! :-D

[By the way I'm only tracking the top #30 rankings for each engine now, as opposed to the top #50 I did earlier.]

If you haven’t subscribed to the RSS Feed or the E-mail option (top right) I suggest you do so as my next post will give you all the goodies :-D just in time for Christmas. There are some BIG surprises in there!

I’ll be getting back to you soon,

See you on pages #1, #2 and #3 in 2008!

Merry, merry,

Finding the right keyword phrase

By Clive | November 24, 2007

It’s all very well cornering the web for your Keyword phrase (KWP) but if nobody is searching for that phrase what’s the point? There are a number of tools you can purchase (or paid membership sites you can join) that give you this information and some are better than others.

Me? I once paid, now I don’t. I realised some time back that I have all the knowledge I need, plus a couple of free software tools (OK, there’s an exception or two, tool-wise, and I talk about them on this site) to ‘get it on’ online . But it’s our natural inclination to be side-tracked by all the latest ‘must have’ programs and memberships.

I don’t know if all these latest, fantastic, bits of kit work or not. But like you, I’m sure, I sometimes think, “Well, it’s only $67 a month and I can cancel at any time”. [ DayJob Killer's Google Assassin anyone?] . Be strong! This coming year’s resolution? Just follow the free Webel Way! Hey! If it doesn’t work by all means move on and get sucked back into buying the latest ‘big thing’.

Come on! You’re smarter than that!

But if you would like a free tool that gives a Webel all the information he, or she, needs then look no further - here’s an early Christmas present for you. Just click on the screenshot below to download the free Webel Keyword Tool:

kw-toolscreenshot.gif

It’s easy to use and here’s a summary - just follow the buttons left to right :-D

1) Main Keyword: Click on this and type in your generic keyword (in the above example it’s ‘golf’)

2) Gather Keywords: Click and the tool goes and searches Wordtracker.com and displays 100 results.

3) Add Keywords: You can add more keywords, individually or as a list from a text file. Use the buttons below the main screen to delete keywords if you so wish. But you can skip this whole stage if you want.

4) Gather Data: The tool now goes to see how many competing pages there are on the three main Search Engines for the various KWP’s that have been generated. A KWP that stands out, to me, in the screenshot above would be ‘golf tournamanent gifts’ - that’s a healthy looking ratio of searches to competition. If I was affiliated to a company providing golf tournament gifts then that’s one KWP I’d be starting a Webel campaign for and corner the market.

5) Save results: Save data to a folder on your PC for future reference

6) Make money: Purchase the rights to rebrand this tool to sell it or give it away. I obviously chose to do the latter because I’m a big old softie and it’s nearly Christmas.

Plus giving away software over the web saves me all that ‘present wrapping’ nonsense! :P

See you at the top,
