Web 2.0 - Does this actually work? Check the stats and decide…

By Clive | January 3, 2008

Hi Webels,
My last campaign (go have a look for recent stats) and the previous one (ditto) were interesting and, in my own way, I’m checking out what’s working and what’s not.

Big News….

Howie Schwarz’s ‘Conversation Domination Membership’ - originally only available for a one-off payment of $1200. Which later became the ‘easy pay’ option of $195 per month and has now evolved into the $1 ‘free’ trial. Methinks you’re milking this one a bit overtly Howie :-) - can’t say I blame you as it’s all good info and as long as those first punters don’t object why should I ?

Still, if I had 400 people sign up at the original fee and a few dozen more later at the ‘easy pay’ option I’d be happy. Ecstatic even! Well done Howie - gotta be worth half a million right? It’s all envy from my end.

I really appreciate Howie’s insight that started me off on my little Webel adventure but my blog remains free. I’m not stealing Howie’s stuff and republishing it - I didn’t sign up - but what I am doing, I hope, is blazing my own little Web 2.0 trail.

But wait: [added 8th Jan]

Now Stompernet are laying the groundwork to promote their very own Web 2.0 course/membership whatever and no doubt that too will be somewhat pricey too. I admit that their video production values ( see below) are high but everything in this video is what we know already, still if you needed further convincing……

(Update: 03/04/08 - Stompernet have taken the video down as they’re sold out, way to go!)
.
PS: Have you noticed the big ‘thing’ for Internet Marketers in the last year, and will continue this year, is to find 1000 punters willing to pay $1000 rather than 10,000 for a $100 product! It’s a less hassle way to a million bucks apparently - so that’s OK then! As the video states, in 1997 you could get it ALL for $9.99 !!!
.
It’s the new Guru strategy :-D
.
PPS: I just found that the domain www.GurusGoHome.com is up for grabs! A marketing opportunity for someone there I reckon!

But there is good fair priced info out there if you know where to look….

I’m currently checking out Jack Humphrey’s new membership site that, as far as I’m concerned, is cutting edge and way, way, WAY better value at $29.95 a month. How can any serious marketer turn down a 3 day $1 trial via Paypal to check it out? Not me and I like what I’ve found so far.

Yeah I’ve noticed the price hike over the last couple of years $47 to $97. Then monthly memberships of $200 or more - now the BIG $1000 plus ideas, the &10,000 seminars

Then every Guru with a list does a JV with their other Guru buddies to promote each others products.

But if I’d had the foresight to start building a list in 1997 I’d be doing the same I guess.

The thing is to maintain a healthy disrespect for their sales pitches and do your own research.

Don’t forget the over hyped “Bonus” packages and the limited membership “don’t miss out!” techniques that everyone seems to be using lately.

Don’t get me wrong our membership is limited to 50 and we let people know that but it’s not like a “omg we sold out in 4 minutes” type deal.

Yep, Frank Kern’s at it and, of course, Armand Morin too. How many lists are you on? If you’re on quite a few (like me) did you start getting a bit annoyed at everyone of Frank Kern’s JV’s e-mailing you desparately to sign up via their link?

Naturally these guys are all offering good free content with high production values to appeal to those of us who are prepared to hand over a couple of grand.

Am I saying it’s a bad investment? No I’m not - it’s just that I hate the incestuous relationship between all these heavy hitters so much that it brings out the cynic in me!

Plus all the info they have is available free somewhere anyway, even if it’s in your local library!

This is so true. I’ve seen very little in the last 6 months for less than $997. A couple of cheapo ebooks with useful information for sure, but of course they’re just fronts to - you guessed it - $997 products (or $97 per month memberships, which pretty much amounts to the same IMHO)

The worrying thing about this approach (economically sound though it may be in the short term,) is that it increases the divide. Cutting-edge tactics are only affordable by those who are already making good money, so, forgive the over-used line - the rich get richer. Or at least get the opportunity to do so.

The only information worth paying this sort of money for is expensively-researched real test data, (stuff like the Planet Ocean newsletter, for example,) and there’s not much of that floating around, sadly.

Sure, maybe Stomper are indeed the real deal, but I’ll never be spending that much money to find out :)

    Hi Alex,

Seems we’re on the same wavelength here.

Saying that though I admit to being impressed with Jack Humphrey’s new offering especially at the price of only $29.95 a month:

    http://socialpowerlinking.com/?refer=743

    (yep, that’s my link) :-)

Info is good so far, with some great .pdfs and video and I’m trusting that new stuff’ll be added regularly.

It certainly knocks all those $1000, $2000 membership sites into touch as they are just, in my opinion, selling what Jack was talking about a year ago!

Try it for 3 days for a buck! I did and I’ll be hanging around for a while I reckon.

Crikey! Was that a sales pitch? Yes it was, ‘cos it’s a buck to check out and not a couple of grand!

Jonny Andrews releases The Guru Assassin - sounds like he might have got the idea from my GurusGoHome.com as mentioned above
